POLICE are warning householders to be on the alert following a distraction burglary incident in Thornton on Saturday.
Around 11am, a young woman with a child went to the door of a pensioner in Holmes Road, and told her that her son had dropped something in the rear garden.
While the young female distracted the woman in the garden an accomplice entered the house and stole her purse and money.
The offender was said to be aged about 20, slim, with dirty blonde hair in a pony tail. She was wearing a pale blue tracksuit.
Crime prevention officer PC Ian Hill said: "To take advantage of people in this way is despicable. Thankfully this is a very rare crime in our area and I would appeal to anyone who may have seen this woman to contact police on 01253 876611."
Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
