Councillor Gordon McCann will officially be installed as the new Mayor of Wyre today.
This year's mayor-making ceremony will take place at Fleetwood's Marine Hall during Wyre Borough Council's annual meeting, which starts at 11am.
Councillor McCann will don his robes and receive his chain of office from outgoing Mayor Keith Riley, who sends a good luck message to his successor.
Councillor Riley said: "We have had a wonderful year representing Wyre throughout Lancashire and beyond. I wish Gordon all the very best for his year in office and I am sure he will enjoy it every bit as much as we have."
The Preesall member, 62, has served his ward since 1991 and is also a member of Preesall Town Council.
He was Deputy Mayor of Wyre in 1999/2000 to Alderman Harry Taylor, which he says gave him a good grounding in mayoral duties. His wife Yvonne will be his Mayoress.
Although born in Bolton, he knew the Over Wyre area well as a child because his parents had a holiday caravan in Preesall. He trained as an electrician and, when he joined ICI at Thornton in 1975, he and his wife Yvonne made their home in Preesall where they now live in Rosslyn Avenue. They have two sons and two grandchildren
Deputy Mayor for the forthcoming year is Councillor Tom Balmain, a Conservative member for Garstang ward since 1999. Aged 67, he also serves on Garstang Town Council and is a former Mayor of Garstang.
Also taking place at Friday's meeting is the presentation of the Sheraton Trophy for sporting excellence and the unveiling of the total amount raised for Brian House, Councillor Riley's chosen charity for 2007/08.
