THORNTON and Cleveleys will soon have more bobbies on bikes.
Wyre Community Safety Partnership has bought three mountain bikes for police in a bid to boost patrols in the towns.
And officers claim the new acquisitions will play a vital role in cracking crime.
Sgt Gary Tunstall, from Wyre Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "The bikes are a great boost and will really help officers to extend patrols at the same time as being highly visible and accessible to the public, which is exactly what local communities are demanding from the police.
"I personally thank everyone involved in the initiative.
"I'm confident we will soon reap the benefits."
Coun Graeme Cocker, chairman of the Wyre Community Safety Partnership, added: "The bikes are a wonderful community based resource allowing the police to access public areas as well as the harder-to-reach outskirts that are not so regularly used and patrolled.
"They will be very visible to the public and offer reassurance on the streets throughout the district."
Officers using the bikes will have passed a fitness schedule and the Cycling Proficiency Test and will wear a specially adapted uniform which includes a cycle helmet.
