A HEALTH care manager from Thornton has won an accolade at a regional awards ceremony.
Andrea Doherty, Commissioning Manager for End of Life Care, beat off competition from hundreds of other entrants to her category at this year's North West Health and Social Care Awards.
The winners were announced at a ceremony at Aintree Race Course, Liverpool.
Now Andrea, along with the other winners, has been entered in to the national finals which will be held in July in London.
Andrea took home first prize in the Adopt, Adapt and Improve Award category.
Her winning project centres on improving the care and support given to care home residents and their families.
Through the project, educational events were held to help improve communications between care home staff and residents and families, as well as medical training.
Andrea's NHS North Lancashire colleague from Blackpool, mental health improvement specialist Hilary Abernethy, also won an award.
She won the Primary Care and Community Pathways Award for her social prescribing project, Solutions, which enables people with mental health problems to be referred for non-medical treatments.
Kevin Parkinson, Acting Chief Executive of NHS North Lancashire, says: "We are all delighted that Andrea and Hilary have received such high recognition for their work to improve healthcare in the area. We're now looking forward to July because we think both these very successful projects have got a good chance of succeeding at the national finals, too."
