FLEETWOOD’S Wes Newton reached the fourth round of darts’ Speedy Hire UK Open qualifier in Wigan on Sunday, where Vincent van der Voort won an all-Dutch final.

He beat Raymond van Barneveld 6-4 at the Robin Park Tennis Centre in the fourth qualifying event for the televised UK Open, which takes place in Bolton in June.

Newton defeated Jason Crawley (6-1), Brendan Dolan (6-2) and Gary Anderson (6-3) before losing out 6-4 in the last-16 to Robert Thornton, who was then beaten by eventual runner-up Van Barneveld in the quarter-finals.

Blackpool-born Ronnie Baxter made a third-round exit to Wayne Mardle (6-3), after beating Stephen Hardy (6-3) and Peter Wright (6-2).
