A GREAT week of action in the 31st Freeport Fleetwood Bowling Festival came to grand finale in glorious summer weather.
Around 500 spectators enjoyed the action at Fleetwood’s Marine Gardens, where favourite Graeme Wilson from Audenshaw won the men’s singles title and £1,000 prize with a 21-12 victory over David Walker of Swinton in the final.
Wilson, a former winner of the Talbot and the All England Championship, moved into a 15-7 lead and defied Walker’s attempted fightback.
The women’s final was finely balanced at 15-14 until the experienced Julie Gardner of Greasby produced a magnificent five-break against Shropshire’s Claire Williams to move within one of the title.
Gardner, a former runner-up, eventually won 21-16 and also claimed the £1,000 cheque from sponsors Freeport Outlet Shopping Village.
Wilson and Gardner also qualify for the Champion of Champions event at the Waterloo in October.
The festival committee also wish to thank all the sponsors, helpers and volunteers who ensured the event ran so smoothly, and also Wyre Borough Council and the Marine Hall Waterfront Venue for the use of their greens.
