Stalmine boxer Jack Arnfield was in upbeat mood before his top-of-the-bill appearance at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens on Friday night.

Arnfield, who meets former British title challenger Max Maxwell as he steps up to middleweight for the first time said: “I feel fantastic and it’s going to be a big night of boxing in Blackpool.

Arnfield, who meets former British title challenger Max Maxwell as he steps up to middleweight for the first time said: “I feel fantastic and it’s going to be a big night of boxing in Blackpool.

“I have sold 200 tickets and the other fighters on the bill have done a good job selling tickets, and I am expecting a crowd of 2,000.”

Maxwell, the only man to inflict defeat on Blackpool’s world title challenger Brian Rose, is on a lengthy losing run, but Arnfield is taking him seriously.

He said: “Maxwell may have lost those fights, but he has boxed top-quality fighters like Liam Smith, Nick Blackwell, Ronnie Heffron and Kerry Hope, who has just fought for the IBF inter-continental middleweight title.

“I am happy at the weight and I have made it comfortably - it was a bit of a struggle when I was boxing at light-middle.

“Brian has fought Maxwell twice and he will be in my corner tonight, giving me tips and advice.”

It will be the first time that Arnfield will have topped the bill on a local show, prospect to relish.

He has won all of his 16 professional bouts to date and it will be his first fight since March when winning the vacant international masters title against Gary Boulden on a promotion at Bolton.

There is an interesting under-card, which includes Bolton’s Haroon Khan, brother of former world champion Amir, who is expected to be at ringside to watch his younger sibling.

Haroon, a super-flyweight, will be having his first contest in six months - he is slated to fight Stefan Slavchev, of Bulgarian one of the highlights of a busy under-card on the VIP Promotions bill.

Haroon has won both his contests to date.
