MICKY Mellon is hoping to help history repeat itself by arranging a similar pre-season programme to last year for Fleetwood Town.
A busy pre-season which included training camps in Scotland and the Austrian Alps paved the way for Town’s title-winning campaign.
And as he builds towards the club’s first Football League season, Mellon revealed he is planning trips to the same destinations. Mellon told The Gazette: “We’ll do Austria and Scotland again to keep the players ticking over. The changes of scenery prevent training becoming monotonous.
“We hope to have the usual half-dozen friendlies and are waiting to firm up one or two.”
Three have already been confirmed against Tranmere Rovers, a Blackburn XI and Chester City. Town full-back Junior Brown has kept his place in the England C squad of 18 for the International Challenge Trophy game against Russia at Moscow Dynamo on June 5. The left-back made his England bow against Italy at Highbury in February.
n Scott McNiven has left AFC Fylde to rejoin Hyde United as manager.
The Blue Square Bet North champions moved fast to appoint McNiven following the shock departure of Gary Low.
McNiven, who spent the past season as coach at Fylde, said: “ It is a fantastic opportunity. To get into management at Conference level is fantastic.” McNiven’s assistant will be Gavin McCann, the former Everton, Sunderland and Bolton midfielder. The pair have been friends since playing youth football together for YMCA.
