Super skipper Mark Roberts swooped late on to send Fleetwood Town back into the automatic promotion spots with a super win at Rochdale.

It was a hard-fought affair in the driving Pennine rain, the promotion rivals trading blows.

But Town took the lead from the penalty spot after 23 minutes.

Charlie Taylor’s charge into the box was brought to a halt by Rhys Bennett’s shoulder charge, Antoni Sarcevic netting from 12 yards.

Dale would level before the break, a corner to the near post, Ashley Eastham’s header coming back off the woodwork, Scott Hogan bundling it home.

The home side bosses after the break, Ian Henderson a constant menace.

But Town created the better openings, Matty Blair very nearly restoring the lead, getting a toe on Gareth Evans’ cross, hitting the woodwork from 2 yards.

But seven minutes from time there was a breakthrough.

Junior Brown felled wide on the left, Steven Schumacher took the free kick short, Brown turning on the edge of the box, Nathan Pond heading against the post, skipper Mark Roberts with the simple task of putting the loose ball in the net.
