IT will be a big day for close season signing Rob Atkinson at Blundell Park tomorrow – he makes his Fleetwood debut against his old club.
Not that Atkinson will be feeling any nerves going back to his old stamping ground so soon.
Boss Micky Mellon said: “Rob is so laid back that he won’t even realise he will be playing at Grimsby until he actually gets there! He is the last person to be bothered about playing his old club.”
However, Atkinson does not feel it will be plain sailing as he returns to the east coast, and a club for whom he made 127 appearances.
“There’ll be a few boos no doubt, but that is part and parcel of football, and it’s my job to ignore it and concentrate on the game.’
“I’ll be glad to play because I missed the first game of last season through injury. I’m ready and raring to go and up there where I want my fitness to be.”
