GOAL-GRABBER Andy Mangan is also making a name for himself as Fleetwood Town’s king of assists.

The striker, who had 23 assists to his name in the Conference last season, set up three of Town’s four at Morecambe last Saturday.

A 20-goal frontman last term, the 26-year-old has only one to his name so far in League Two but is revelling in his role as goal provider, teeing up strike partner Jon Parkin for two of his three at the Globe Arena.

Mangan said: “I’m happy just to be in the side, though I would like to get 20 goals again. The main thing is to keep working hard and trying to get better match by match.

“As a striker you’ll find that over the course of a season some go in for you and some don’t. That’s the case from Premier League level down to ours.

“It was Jon’s turn for a hat-trick at Morecambe and he thoroughly deserved it because he works so hard. But it doesn’t matter who scores as long as Fleetwood win.”

Manager Micky Mellon is delighted with the way the Liverpudlian has adapted, though he is no stranger to the Football League after spells with Accrington and Bury, having started his career at Blackpool.

Mellon said: “Andy has done really well and I’m not surprised because he is a good player.

“But I’m really pleased with all the lads, because to say that they are still at the early stages of their League careers is an understatement.”

Back-to-back four-goal wins have lifted Town into the top four but it’s no surprise to Mangan, who added: “I never had any doubt we would perform at this level, and we have players who can perform far higher than this.”
