It’s a case of ‘Daggers drawn’ for Fleetwood Town on the opening day of the Football League season.
Graham Alexander’s men host Dagenham and Redbridge at Highbury on Saturday, August 3.
Fleetwood will take on a Dagenham side that escaped demotion from the Football League by the skin of their teeth in 2012-13.
They finished third-bottom on the same number of points as relegated Barnet, who had an inferior goal difference.
The following Saturday Fleetwood are on their travels, to the deepest South West to take on John Sheridan’s Plymouth Argyle, themselves involved in a battle for survival last season.
Town will have derbies over the Christmas and New Year holiday periods.
They are away to Morecambe on Boxing Day and at home to Accrington Stanley on New Year’s Day.
They will have extra Lancashire derbies against Bury, who came down from League One last season.
Another stand-out fixture is against fallen giants Portsmouth, who were in the Premier League as recently as 2010 and reached the FA Cup Final that year, having won it two years previously.
It is an indication of how far Fleetwood have come and how far downwards Portsmouth have spiralled.
Town go to Fratton Park on September 21 and welcome Portsmouth to Fleetwood on March 15.
The season closes on May 3 with a trip to Chesterfield.
