Caretaker boss Chris Lucketti fired a warning shot at Fleetwood’s under-performing stars after a fourth successive defeat.
Lucketti made five changes from the side which lost 5-1 at Gillingham on Tuesday.
“After Tuesday it wasn’t a difficult decision,” he told The Gazette. “Anybody I took out could not justify why they should be playing.
“I had to make a few changes, shake the squad up a little bit. “If I’m honest it’s people who have been under-performing, who need a jolt and that’s what I left people out.”
Town named Stoke Dionatan Teixeira in their starting XI and Leicester City’s Joe Davis on the bench after two late loan swoops.
And Lucketti made it clear bringing in the centre half pair was his call.
“It was my decision. We sourced a number of possibilities from Steve Davis, who was working extremely hard, as everybody has been. We came up with a list of possible targets we could bring in. There was a lot of hard work.
“It was crucial we got a lot in and possibly two.”
An injury crisis at the back prompted the move. Lucketti added: “We were unsure up to Friday who was fit and we had to cover ourselves. We brought two in and then Richard Wood passed the fitness test and we looked stronger. But it’s an area where we needed to strengthen anyway.”
“The lads gave everything that they could. “They had some very good performances.
“They have had one shot on target and scored.
“To come away from home and limit them to one shot on target is great by anybody’s standards.
“The first thing we had to sort out was our defence, if I’m honest.
“I was more than happy with how the back lads played.”
