The Argentinians, who are on a UK tour, emerged with a 21-0 victory.

Bedes captain Juan Cruz Perez Rachel praised their hosts: “I think we deserved the win after playing well. Fleetwood played a good game but we sacrificed our bodies to play hard.

“A lot of our players are fast and play a strong game. We are mentally strong. I will remember this match for a long time.”

John McCann led the Green and Gold side and said his team would learn from the experience: “It was a good opportunity to play against a team from another country and see their style of play,” he said.

“The score showed they are an established team with strengths in many areas but there are things we can take from the game.”

Fleetwood RUFC is recruiting assistant coaches for its under-6 and under-9 teams.

Both consist of boys and girls, with training taking place each week at Melbourne Avenue. Teaching the game is a key part of the roles but enthusiasm is more important than rugby knowledge.

The team manager will be well-organised, approachable and able to manage team administration.

Coaches and team managers must act as good role models and be able to develop individuals’ skill, confidence and fitness.

Junior chairman Caroline Torkington said the roles are rewarding and have a direct impact on player development. Caroline also explained younger volunteers are welcome at Melbourne Avenue.

“We are looking for mature volunteers at this stage but any GCSE PE or Duke of Edinburgh students are welcome to join in coaching or other volunteering roles. We are particularly looking for students to referee mini and junior matches.”

Prospective volunteers are invited to Sunday training from 10.30am. Caroline can be reached on 07415 272340.
