Most are long gone, except for a couple of high street names which have moved location. But these were the shops which knitted our wonderful town together and provided food, clothing and every day essentials. They are striking pictures which show how the shops and streets have changed.

1930s. The shop right of centre is Barkers and is advertising ' holiday Wear ' at the top of it's windows. It was replaced in 1938 by Littlewoods and the White building is the Adelphi Hotel. To the right of the hotel is Taylors Chemist - note canopy at the entrance to the Winter Gardens and the original top of the dome
