WYRE Estuary Country Park has been named as one of the best green spaces in the country for the fifth time.
The popular countryside attraction at Stanah was awarded Green Flag status, a national standard for parks and greens spaces, last Thursday.
Winners of the award, handed out annually by the Civic Trust, are judged to be welcoming and well-maintained locations run by dedicated and enthusiastic staff and volunteers, who work closely with the local community.
Set on the banks of the River Wyre, the country park is run by Wyre Council. Among its facilities are a visitor centre and cafe linked to a network of paths and country lanes, many of which offer amazing views of the Wyre estuary.
Efforts are also made to ensure access for all, including a trail for the blind or partially sighted - and there is also an all-terrain Tramper vehicle which can be hired free of charge by people with mobility problems.
Staff and countryside volunteers who manage and maintain the park are passionate about their work, regularly taking guided walks and encouraging community involvement.
Alison Boden, the council's Coast and Countryside Manager, said: "It's wonderful news that Wyre Estuary Country Park has again been awarded Green Flag status. We see this as a fantastic accolade for the park's committed staff and volunteers who all work tremendously hard to offer visitors an enjoyable experience and consistently high standards."
