A SUPERMARKET at the fire ravaged Teanlowe Centre in Poulton is preparing to re-open.
Somerfield, the biggest store in Poulton's main shopping mall, was shut following the huge blaze at Club Monaco on January 17.

The club, which is above the supermarket on the first floor of the Teanlowe Centre, was completely destroyed by the fire.

Somerfield was also badly hit, as the gallons of water used by firefighters to douse the inferno flooded the store and destroyed stock.

Now, work has started to repair a large hole in the roof of the club, which was destroyed by the fire.

Teanlowe Centre bosses hope that will allow the supermarket to re-open on Monday February 15.

Stuart Markland , from property managers Mason Owen, which is overseeing the repairs, said: "For the sake of Somerfield trying to open we need to get the hole in the roof patched up as quickly as possible.

"It will be a temporary repair at first to allow them to open with further works taking place to fully repair it at a later date.

"Demolition contractors are on site to remove unsafe elements of the Club Monaco nightclub building.

"We hope the Somerfield store will be open in two weeks.

"Obviously with the nature of the works that can't be a definite because if there is a lot of rain or snow it will make working conditions difficult. But hopefully we will be able to get it open again very soon."

An investigation into the blaze remains open and is set to continue for a third week.

Fire investigators and police detectives are looking into the cause of the blaze, which happened just after 10pm.

But they have yet to come to a conclusion.

A fire service spokesman said: "An investigation is still ongoing into the cause of the fire at Club Monaco."
