Riverdance is to be cut up
CLEVELEYS' unusual tourist attraction - the beached ferry Riverdance - is to be cut up.
Hancock's Contractors will dismantle the vessel, which ran aground in storms on January 31.
Riverdance had become a major tourist attraction - although it had been reported its popularity was beginning to wane of late.
Now visitors are expected to flock to the shoreline again to see the might craft dismantled.
It is anticipated the 6,000-tonne Seatrucks ship will be removed from the beach by the end of June.
The decision to break up the ship was taken after efforts to refloat it failed mainly due to bad weather.
The top area will be sliced into approximately 10 sections, leaving the hull intact until the end.
That will be cut into between four and six sections, to be hauled off the beach by two mobile cranes.
