MP joins residents' health centre battle
RESIDENTS in Poulton who are battling plans for a super health centre are being backed by their MP.
Ben Wallace, MP for Lancaster and Wyre paid a visit to the Alexandra retirement complex on Chapel Street to listen to the concerns of elderly residents.
Two GP surgeries on Lockwood Avenue and Queensway could be merged into a bigger centre on Vicarage Road.
But the plans have met with stern opposition from residents.
North Lancashire Primary Care Trust's plans to develop the Vicarage Road site not only threaten the future of the long established St Chad's Tennis club and church hall, but residents also say it will make traffic congestion unbearable in the town centre.
Traffic
Residents were particularly concerned about the impact of additional traffic on Chapel Street, including noise and speed at which cars come round the corner.
Mr Wallace was met by Poulton councillors, Peter Gibson and David Henderson, other Poulton residents also attended to register their worries at the new scheme.
Mr Wallace assured residents he would look into the plans and make sure their concerns were listened to.
He promised to meet with the church and schedule a meeting with the local GP's from the surgery to find out what their view of this proposed new centre is.
