A CONVICTED drug dealer who turned his garage into a narcotics factory has been ordered to give up £186,000.
Gerard Davis (pictured) is serving eight years in prison after he was caught selling cocaine and amphetamine.
When drugs squad officers swooped on the property Davis rented in the Over Wyre village of Hambleton, they found almost £50,000 worth of Class A drugs.
They also discovered an hydraulic press, used to flatten powder into small packages for transportation, and a heat sealing machine at the address on Meadowcroft Avenue.
Davis was jailed in December 2007 at Preston Crown Court after admitting three counts of possessing illegal substances with intent to supply and one of possessing criminal property.
Immediately after the case, Lancashire Police financial investigators set about establishing how much Davis made from his crimes, with a view to obtaining a confiscation order.
This week, following an application under the Proceeds of Crime Act at Lancaster Crown Court, a judge decided Davis had made £385,000 from criminal enterprise.
He must now pay up the £186,000 he has left in Spanish property and savings.
Det Insp Lee Wilson, of Blackpool CID, said: "Taking money off criminals hits them where it hurts the most.
"Anyone profiting from crime should be warned, we'll not only investigate your criminal activity and put you before the courts but will also use the latest legislation to strip you of the ill-gotten gains you've generated from crime."
The court heard how sniffer dogs alerted officers to the fact Davis was returning from Spain with drugs in his bag on August 11 2007.
A search at his home uncovered cocaine and amphetamine in various places with a street value of more than £48,000 and also £120 worth of heroin.
Police also raided Davis' sister's house on Ilkley Grove in Bispham, where £36,000 in cash was found in a safe.
The Judge ordered he must pay up within six months or face an extra three years in prison, on top of his eight-year sentence, and still owe the money on his release with accrued interest.
The £36,000 cash from his sister's address has already been forfeited at a separate hearing under the cash seizure provisions of the Proceeds of Crime Act.
