POULTON residents packed into a public meeting to get a first look at revised plans for a controversial new health centre in the town.
The proposals, unveiled by Paul Mason of architects Croft Goode Ltd, is designed to fit in better with the site on Vicarage Road.
Mr Mason told the meeting in St Chad’s Church Hall that plans for a town centre one-way system had been dropped but o
ther changes would be made to ease traffic flow.
These include new traffic signals at the junction of Hardhorn Road and Queens Square, a loading bay in Chapel Street and a one-way section at the end of Vicarage Road.
Mr Mason said the redesigned health centre would eat up less than four per cent of neighbouring Vicarage Park, a new church hall would be built and two new tennis courts, including a covered court, would be provided at Moorland Tennis Club.
But residents were still concerned about its impact on existing facilities.
Tim Crouch, of Station Road, added: “How confident can you be that in five or 10 years’ time this building will be big enough, or might you come back and say you need more of the park?”
Stephanie Hasty, of Vicarage Road, said: “This plan is not much different to the original and will cause the same problems.”
