A SPATE of thefts and burglaries at Poulton's industrial estate has led to a new CCTV scheme being set up there.
The cameras have been trained on the entrances of the estate.
It follows the launch in June last year of Operation Melody , an investigation by the Poulton Neighbourhood Policing Team into crime on the estate.
PC Dave Key, together with the polciin
g team, began high visibility patrols supplementing the private security provided for the estate through the Business Watch scheme.
Analysis of the crimes occurring showed that either vehicles were being stolen or that large vehicles were being used to take the stolen property away.
Regular patrols helped reduce the number of unwanted visitors to the estate whilst PC Key visited all the businesses on the estate to generate income to purchase the CCTV systems.
More than £4,000 was raiseed from the businesses on the estate enabling the Business Watch to purchase cameras that not only film vehicles coming and going but also automatically record the number plates of all the vehicles.
PC Key said: "This is a great example of the businesses pulling together and working in partnership to reduce the amount of crime on the estate.
"I am grateful to See Norbain on the estate for providing the cameras at a greatly reduced cost to help ensure the scheme came to fruition, also to Steve Gartside and the Business Watch committee for their commitment to the scheme."
If any businesses on the estate want more information on how to join the Business Watch scheme they can contact Steve Gartside at the Estate Office or on 07973 401333.
