THERE has been some good news for a Poulton tennis club.
St Chad's Tennis Club – threatened by proposals to build a medical centre on their courts – is celebrating after being
informed they can remain on site until their relocation is arranged.
The club was given notice to quit its courts last year after
plans were submitted to Wyre Council to merge the health centres on Queensway and Lockwood Avenue into one purpose-built facility on Vicarage Lane.
But members have been promised a relocation to Moorland Tennis Club on Breck Road, in Poulton, which will include a £500,000 development of a covered court and flood lit court – if the plans for the super health centre are passed.
Gemma Jackson, tennis club secretary, said players welcomed the announcement with tea, cake and lots of tennis matches at the club's 81st open day on Saturday.
Although the application for the super health centre was shelved in December, after it met fierce opposition from residents concerned about the loss of parkland and increased traffic congestion, developers say a new application will be re-submitted in the near future.
Rushcliffe Healthcare will submit the application on behalf of NHS North Lancashire.
