Around 30 pupils from St Aidan’s Church of England High School in Preesall missed the 2C service from Knott End to Blackpool Town Centre last week.

The school said a deal made to ensure kids can catch the bus has been ignored a ‘number of times’, although Blackpool Transport bosses said no problem has been reported until now.

We operate the journey from Knott End as per the agreement. On one day last week the bus operated late due to a mechanical issue

Head teacher Andy Smith said changes to timetables last year meant buses that used to arrive at around 3.10pm were instead arriving at just after 3pm, which meant youngsters were no longer able to catch them.

He said: “We contacted Blackpool Transport and we agreed to change the time so the bus would arrive at 3.09pm instead.

“Unfortunately that message is taking a time to get through to staff, so we have had a number of incidents where this has not happened.”

Pupils were not left entirely stranded, with another service due around 20 minutes later, but the school sent out several tweets telling parents it would be contacting Blackpool Transport over the issue, while Mr Smith said he was also drafting a letter to send home.

On its website, Blackpool Transport said its 2C service leaves Knott End at 2.56pm and arrives at Saracens Head in Park Lane - the stop closest to the school - at 3.02pm.

A later service leaves Knott End at 3.26pm and arrives at Saracens Head at 3.33pm.

Bob Mason, director of delivery at Blackpool Transport said: “We operate the journey from Knott End as per the agreement. On one day last week the bus operated late due to a mechanical issue.

“From 8 November all the service will be re-timed to fit in with the school timetable.

“I have not been contacted by the school since the original request was made and we implemented the change.”
