Fleetwood Carnival could follow its traditional longer route for this year’s annual procession.

The organising committee has decided to try to bring Manor Road back into the route in an effort to lengthen the procession.

We are hoping to get it back to the old route because it would be nice to make the procession longer. We will need a lot more marshals, though, so we are hoping for extra volunteers

But in order to do that, more volunteer marshals are needed on the day to ensure the smooth running of the event.

The carnival traditionally included Manor Road in its route, but a drop in entries several years ago resulted in a shorter route which turned into Carr Road from Poulton Road.

Ann Hanvey, who co-ordinates the event, said: “We are hoping to get it back to the old route because it would be nice to make the procession longer. We will need a lot more marshals, though, so we are hoping for extra volunteers.”

The Carnival takes place on Saturday, June 20.

The parade starts at 1pm at the Marine Hall and arrives back at 2.30pm.

The chosen Carnival queen for this year is Hannah Praed.

The committee is also appealing to all schools and organisations to enter a float and to youth organisations who might be able to help by distributing leaflets to recruit new committee members.

Volunteers need to be over 18.
