Members of the public are being advised to beware of suspicious substances on the beach after ‘potentially dangerous’ palm oil was found washed up on the shore in Cumbria.

HM Coastguard Fleetwood said it had received several inquiries about the toxic substance which is harmful to dogs – but said there were no reports of it being found on the Fylde coast.

A spokesman added: “However, as palm oil is potentially dangerous, we would advise the public to take care and avoid human or animal contact with any suspicious substance.”
