Three pupils injured in road crash horror
The trio were walking home from Millfield Science and Performing Arts College, Thornton, on Friday afternoon when they were involved in a collision with a car.
The incident happened at around 3.10pm at the junction of Briar Road and Lawsons Road.

Hide AdOne schoolgirl, a 13-year-old, who witnessed the incident, has told how schoolchildren rallied around to help the boys, one of who was “not moving” on the ground.
She said: “The car came out of nowhere.
“The wing mirror hit one of the boys and then the boys all went flying.
“It was scary. The boys were bleeding and one of them was on the ground not moving or speaking.
“It all happened so fast.”
The boys’ headteacher, Sean Bullen, confirmed: “There was an accident and three of our children were injured.”

Hide AdOne of the boys, named on a statement on the school’s website as Lee Curtis Wright, suffered a broken jaw in the incident and was taken to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital but released over the weekend. A second boy, named as Joe Holmes, suffered a series of fractures to his foot and was treated at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
A third boy suffered minor injuries but did not need hospital treatment.
All three pupils are in Year Nine at the Belvedere Road school.
Mr Bullen added: “I’d like to thank all the staff who supported the children, the emergency services, and the local residents who were extremely supportive and kind.

Hide Ad“I believe the boys were very brave. Teacher Miss Bottomley, who was first at the scene, reported the other students, although upset, behaved in a very mature way.”
Police confirmed they are investigating the incident.
