TRAM Sunday is a huge event in the Fleetwood calendar, bringing thousands of visitors and providing a welcome boost for our local businesses and traders.

On behalf of everyone in Fleetwood, I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to everyone involved this year. The Fleetwood Chamber of Trade and Commerce, led by Mike Sanderson have done a superb job.

At Westminster I met with researchers from the Liverpool Cancer Research UK Centre and the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research in Manchester.

As well as finding out about cutting edge research, I heard that Cancer Research UK relies on the generosity of supporters to fund life-saving work. Around four people are diagnosed with cancer every hour but the good news is that thousands of mums, dads, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters are alive today thanks to research.

I feel proud that research in the North West makes such a significant contribution. It’s heartening to know that all the work that our local fundraisers, such as those who organise Cancer Care coffee mornings make such a big difference here on their doorstep.
