A major seminar to help tackle bullying in schools has been hailed a huge success.
Famed Blackpool entertainer Norry Ashcroft – better known as DJ and presenter Lionel Vinyl – has been visiting secondary schools in Blackpool, Bispham and Fleetwood, to talk to teenagers about bullying and how to tackle it.
And last week he organised a youth seminar at Blackpool’s Hilton Hotel to talk to parents and children about the issue.
The event, at the venue’s Trafalgar Suite, was packed out as the entertainer, a qualified mentor, talked about why bullies do what they do and what can be done about it.
He told The Gazette: “Once people truly understand why bullies are weak, it takes their power away, and in doing so releases any hurt and anger from the victim.
“One of the biggest breakthroughs, is when they realise bullying is never really personal – it’s the bullies’ weakness”.
The one-hour seminar saw parents given printed copies of the information discussed at the event to take home.
One parent at the event, Dave Booth, said: “It was a fantastic event, my daughter is going to be using the information to help other students at her school.”
The positive response from the night has meant that Mr Ashcroft has been asked by parents to organise another event which will take place in the near future.
He said he plans on presenting an afternoon session that will build up self-esteem and confidence, which are both big issues with school children.
