ONE hundred students had to be evacuated as fire threatened Fleetwood Nautical Campus.
Fire fighters from Fleetwood fought for 40 minutes to control the blaze which was in a store room on the ground floor at around 8:30pm on Wednesday.
Four crew members entered the building wearing breathing apparatus and used a hose reel on the fire which caused smoke-logging in around a dozen rooms.
The students were brought out of the building, which includes living accommodation, when the fire was spotted by a caretaker.
An investigation is underway but it is believed it was caused by a part from a fluorescent light falling on combustible material.
Crew manager from Fleetwood Fire Station Kevin Warwick said: “It was a serious fire and it could have gone a few different ways and caused a lot of damage.”
The two fire tenders from Fleetwood were supported by a crew from Bispham.
