It may still be four months away but preparations are well under way to make sure Fleetwood sparkles at Christmas.
Fleetwood Festive Lights Committee is determined to pull out all the stops for another superb display of lights to help pull trade into the town and to boost festive celebrations.
Last year was a phenomenal success with a lantern parade and a switch-on ceremony that saw almost 2,000 people turn out at the Euston Gardens.
Town Coun Mike Barrowclough, who is a member of the organising committee said: “As a repeat of last year, one of the events we are planning is for the installation of small illuminated Christmas trees mounted over shop frontages in the main shopping areas.
“We have started our canvassing by directly approaching staff and managers of the relevant shops explaining how they can be a part of this fantastic event.
“We will be out again on Saturday August 31 to speak to traders.
“The date seems early, however we need to submit our order to the Christmas tree supplier so discounts can be made.
“Like last year, the committee is able to subsidise the cost the first tree per shop. Additional ones will be costed at full price.
“Premises with existing brackets will also be offered a lower price.”
The committee is urging managers of the larger chains of stores to do what they can to the to take part.
“Unfortunately it was quite noticeable last year that the banks and larger shops were unable to take part as funding and expenditure decisions are made elsewhere,” added Coun Barrowclough.
The switch-on takes place late November and will see a lantern parade wind its way to the Marine Hall.
The switch on will take place at the Marine Gardens with Christmas events inside the Marine Hall. Shopkeepers can contact firstname.lastname@example.org or treasurer email@example.com for details.
