Searching for our community champs!

DO you know a Community Champion? Then we want to hear about them.

Your Fleetwood Weekly News is teaming up with Wyre Council to find people who really take pride in Fleetwood and are happy to show it.

The search is on for those who have gone that extra mile in their neighbourhood, people of whom Fleetwood can be proud.

This could mean anything from simply sharing what they love about the town with others, or pledging to clean up after their dog, right through to getting their hands dirty to clean-up the neighbourhood.

The town has a lot to shout about but above all, there is a real sense of community spirit in Fleetwood – and now’s the time to prove it. This ‘taking pride’ campaign is being launched to encourage residents and businesses to be more positive about the place they call home.

To get things moving, a week of activity is planned for early July when Wyre Council will be concentrating efforts on improving things that bring Fleetwood down, working with other organisations were necessary.

Consultation will start shortly with councillors, Fleetwood Town Council, residents associations and community groups to draw up a list of problems that can be solved in the short term.

As many of these as possible will be addressed during the week itself, but the rest won’t go ignored and will become on-going priorities for the council.

Coun Peter Gibson, Leader of Wyre Council, said: “This is a brilliant opportunity to showcase Fleetwood as a fantastic place, but it is only by working together that individuals and organisations will be able to demonstrate this.”
