Lovely day for a jog...

The Fleetwood Half-marathon was run in near perfect conditions – bright sunshine with a slight breeze – and over 550 racers from all over the UK and Ireland toed the line at Fleetwood Leisure Centre.

Former Blackpool Marathon winner Ian McBride of Royton Road Runners set a good pace and was on course for a record by the halfway mark.

And although the Oldham man slowed down in the closing stages, he still beat the record for the annual race by 37 seconds, finishing in 70mins, 18secs.

Otley AC runner Scott Harrington was second in 74.34 after a good battle with third-placed Sale Harrier Callum Rowlinson (75.07).

The women’s race was won comfortably by Swansea Harrier Michelle Cole (86.52), who also took the lady veterans’ title. The Stainland Lions (Bradford) pair of Lucy Thompson (88.33) and Margaret Beever (89.46) were second and third. The men’s veteran winner was Kilmarnock Harriers’ Scott Martin in 76.54.

Organisers Fylde Coast Running would like to thank Wyre Council, Remote medical services, Hilton Hotel Blackpool and all the water station stewards, marshals and support staff.

Fylde Coast Running stages its Hilton running weekend this Saturday and Sunday, with the Illuminations 10K on day one and the Illuminations Half-marathon on day two.
