Two little ducks...22! A Blackpool MP tried his hand at calling bingo as he threw his weight behind a campaign.
Paul Maynard, MP for Blackpool North and Cleveleys, took the microphone at Mecca Bingo, on Talbot Road, officially launched the Bingo Association’s ‘Boost Bingo’ which aims to bring the tax on bingo in line with other gambling pursuits.
Most other gambling activities are taxed at 15 per cent, but the bingo industry has been subjected to bingo duty at 20 per cent.
Campaigners are calling for the Government to lower the “excessive tax burden”, which they claim is preventing investment, modernisation and job creation.
Mr Maynard said: “I am delighted to support the Boost Bingo campaign in Blackpool North and Cleveleys.
“Bingo brings adults of all ages together to socialise in a lively and fun environment, and I am fully behind this campaign.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the Boost Bingo event and hope people will sign the petition to support their local club.”
A recent survey found 61 per cent of British adults said they feel bingo clubs provide an important local service, and bring communities together.
