FATHER Andrew James Shaw from Fleetwood has been awarded an MBE in the honours list for services to the community in the port.
Father Andy received his honour after serving Christ Church in Thornton and St David’s and St Peter’s Church in Fleetwood for 18 years.
During that time he has set up youth groups and community projects. Last year he was ordained after a year as a Deacon.
He said: “I’m pleased – but I’ll use the letters after my name sparingly – I don’t want to look like a show off.
“There’s so many people who make a lot of effort so it feels strange being picked out in some ways.”
There was also an OBE for Bev Risman, a master at Rossall School for some years – for his services to Rugby League.
Risman, 74, won five caps for Great Britain after representing England and the British Lions in rugby union and has since played significant roles in rugby league development.
RFL chairman Richard Lewis said that Bev was one of the most knowledgeable and experienced people in the rugby league world, and was most deserving of an OBE honour.
