A POPULAR Fleetwood pub has been thrown a lifeline after a new owner was brought in to revive it.
The Steamer on Queen’s Terrace was left empty when Cliff and Shirley Beech left after a long dispute over rent demands with Scottish and Newcastle Brewery.
But after calling last orders on April 3, the pub will re-open tonight (Wednesday) under new management.
Experienced landlord Chris Barr has been brought in to run the pub by the brewery and says he will use all of his experience to get The Steamer fulfilling its potential.
He said: “I’m very good at getting pubs open and working to their true potential.
“I aim to do that by having good personalities behind the bar and good staff.”
Mr Barr, who does not know how long he will be keeping The Steamer open for, says he will now work on getting the bar ready for its opening night along with the five staff he has under his management.
He added: “My main role is to get it back to its full potential and I will appoint a manager when the time is correct.
“I will be managing it temporarily and then I will be bringing in a new manager.
The Fleetwood Folk Club used to meet regularly at The Steamer but were forced to find a new home when the previous owners left.
Now the venue has re-opened, chairman Mike France says the members will make a welcome return to the pub.
He said: “We are delighted it will be open again.
“Had it remained shut it would have been quite a blow, but now it’s open I hope they keep it open and get a permanent landlord.”
Entertainment and live bands will play at The Steamer on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings as Mr Barr intends to make the pub available to host a range of events.
Opening hours are from 12pm to 12am Monday to Thursday, 12pm to 2am Friday and Saturday and 12pm to 11.30pm on Sunday.
