A housing developer is bidding to build 51 new homes in an Over Wyre village.

Carlisle-based Story Homes has put forward plans for the development of new houses in Hambleton.

It said the “high quality” homes on land east of Carr Lane would be built following consultation with the local community and council and a planning application has been lodged with Wyre Council.

But a local councillor said the village had recently seen a large increase in house building and many residents would be concerned by such a large new development.

The new homes will comprise a mix of two, three and four-bedroom detached and semi-detached houses.

It would include provision for 30 per cent affordable housing in a combination of two-bedroom terrace houses, and two and three-bed semi-detached homes.

It said the majority of these will be available to rent, while a small number will be available to buy at a discounted rate.

Story Homes planner David Hayward said: “Our proposed development will help the local authority meet its required housing numbers for the area.

“The land forms one of seven Rural Local Service Centres within the Emerging Wyre Core Strategy and the homes will contribute towards Wyre Borough Council’s housing requirement for a minimum of 5,470 net additional new dwellings during the period 2003 to 2028.

“The development will also help stimulate the local economy, creating a number of direct and indirect jobs.

“We have a policy of using local sub contractors and businesses from the local supply chain wherever we can.”

Financial contributions will be made by Story Homes to fund extra school places, while the district as a whole is expected to benefit by £362,000 over a six-year period thanks to the New Homes Bonus used to improve existing and new local services.

Coun Julie Robinson from Wyre Council, who lives in Hambleton, said: “We have had nearly 100 homes built in the Hambleton area in the past couple of years, so residents will be concerned.

“This application is near the newsagents where we have recently had 16 new homes and they will back on to Ingol Grove which will concern people there.

“We will be looking closely at the planning application and residents will be monitoring the situation.”
