Pain-ravaged man found with 256 cannabis plants in his house in £128k factory bust

A cannabis factory found at a man's home in Thornton contained drugs worth £128,000 a court has been told.

Stephen Menton told police he was growing the 256 cannabis plants which were discovered, for his own use, to get relief from excruciating pain.

Menton, 54, of Old Station House, Station Road, Thornton, pleaded guilty to producing cannabis.

He was bailed to appear for sentence at Preston Crown Court on May 16 by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said police discovered 256 cannabis plants growing at Menton’s address when it was searched on January 3 this year.

The prosecutor added: “The estimated yield of these plants is 10.3 kilograms of cannabis which is said to be worth £128,000 in street deals.”

Defence solicitor, Martin Hillson, told magistrates his client had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.

Mr Hillson added: “The plants were being grown for his personal use.

“He wanted to get cannabis oil from them for pain relief.

“In 2008 he suffered a serious injury which has left him in excruciating pain.”
