A new job claim will aim to help single parents struggling to find work.

The four-week Fleetwood course is aimed at helping people on Employment Support Allowance and Jobseeker’s Allowance to improve their skills.

Blackpool-based training provider JHP Employability will run the communication, confidence building and CV writing courses at the YMCA on London Street from June 12.

Linda Leary, who will run the course, said: “This course is designed to help people on benefits to re-build confidence, overcome their barriers to work and help them to improve their skills.

“The first part of the course aims at developing self-esteem, building confidence, communication and personal skills and also provides clients with an up-to-date CV.

“The following weeks focus on promoting an understanding of the labour market and guidance on how to do an effective job search using the internet. It also deals with improving application skills, letter writing and interview techniques.”

The course will run four days each week from 10am to 2pm and gives people the chance to go on a work placement.

Gordon McCann, economy portfolio holder at Wyre Council, said: “Anything improving the outlook of people in Fleetwood has to be welcomed. If it gets people into work, especially people who haven’t had work before, it has to be good.”
