Fleetwood beach will have something of a holiday feel to it by the end of this week.
For the town’s 10 new beach chalets are taking shape and are expected to be fully built by Friday.
With their pastel shades, the huts have already started to pique the interest of walkers along the promenade, many of who have been snapping pictures of them.
The colourful beach bungalows are being sited adjacent to the Marine Gardens.
Wyre Council accepted bids from interested parties to lease the colourful huts and the authority says all 10 have been snapped up.
Nine are being leased out by Fleetwood residents and one from Preesall. All are on 10-year leases.
Coun Alan Vincent, resources portfolio holder for Wyre Council, said: “We were confident that these bungalows would be popular.
“They are a seaside tradition that suit Fleetwood well and create that nostalgic feel of a family day at the beach.
“Combined with other improvements we’ve made to the seafront, and the developments still to come courtesy of the Coastal Communities Fund, Fleetwood’s coastline is fast becoming a very attractive destination. It’s also encouraging that almost all the bidders were from Fleetwood, showing that residents also consider the beach a real community asset.”
One of those leasing the chalets is Fleetwood woman Kate Holmes, who said: “We are thrilled to have won the bid for one of the new chalets. We can’t wait for them to be finished. My children, Alex and Libby, keep asking me to do daily inspections to check on progress. Hopefully it won’t be long before we are in.”
