Veteran broadcaster Sir David Attenborough appears to be getting up close to the lemurs at Blackpool Zoo.

But the naturalist, who celebrates his 90th birthday tomorrow, had not swapped the rainforests for the Fylde coast. It was in fact his waxwork figure which which was enjoying a day out at the East Park Drive attraction from Madame Tussauds on Blackpool Prom.

Matthew Titherington, general manager at Madame Tussauds, said: “Sir David Attenborough is more than just a household name, he is a national treasure who has been a firm fixture of our TV screens for years.

“It felt only right we commemorate his 90th birthday, by doing something a little bit different, but of course in good old Blackpool style. So what better way to do so then a trip to Blackpool Zoo.

“He’s been one of the attraction’s most popular figures and always a sure family favourite.”
