The news comes a week after volunteers in Thornton were told County Hall officials were ready to discuss their community centre scheme.A decision is expected on both projects by the end of the month.Coun Andrea Kay played a key role in bringing both bids before the county council. And she is excited to see officials finally going through the proposals. Blackpool-based UR Potential, a community interest company, has put in the Cleveleys bid while Thornton’s Gala Committee is behind the bid for the town’s library.Coun Kay said: “On the back of the news from Thornton this is very welcome.“These are both good bids and I hope they will both be acceptable to County Hall.“A lot of hard work has gone in and hopefully we will soon have these two buildings open and in use by the community.”Both bids involve the use of the libraries as a base for community groups. Volunteers would also continue to support traditional library activities.Coun Kay hopes the fact the buildings have been out of use for months will not create further problems. She said: “In other locations books have been damaged by being kept in damp, cold properties.“Hopefully that will not be the case here.”Lancashire County Council last year decided to close 28 libraries to save cash.
