Appearing before a medical tribunal, Elaine Mary Lawton accepted several charges levelled at her, including saying she had given medication when she hadn’t, turning patients over without help, sleeping on duty, and leaving prescriptions unattended.

She was given a six month ban after the hearing found she had been dishonest – and had also washed her own clothes at work, as well as using a resident’s iPad while working the night shift.

A number of charges were also dropped after the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) ruled there was no case to answer at a hearing in Oxford Street, Manchester from January 23 to 27 last month.

“Your failings put residents at risk of harm and breached fundamental tenets of nursing and brought the reputation of the profession into disrepute,” the panel’s report said.

It said ‘experienced’ Lawton had ‘fully engaged’ with proceedings, and ‘demonstrated some remorse and some, albeit limited, understanding into [her] misconduct’, which happened at St George’s Care Home in Fairhaven, the Tudor Manor Care Home in Clifton Drive, Blackpool, and at Rossall Hospital, between May 17 and July 29, 2015.

The report added: “The panel took into account that, during your evidence, you said these proceedings have had a significant impact on you, and that the experience has been a learning curve for you.”
