TEAMS of sponsored swimmers are preparing to make a big splash for charity this Saturday.

The annual Fleetwood and Cleveleys Lions’ Swimarathon is being held at the town’s YMCA Leisure Centre Pool.

Organisers are delighted with the number of teams which have already booked their place in the pool – a total of 19.

And with six people to a team, that’s an impressive 114 people of all ages taking part.

However, there is still room for a few more teams if late comers wish to join the party.

This year’s event is raising money toward the armed services charity, Help The heroes.

Stuart Gratrix, one of the key organisers, said: “Over the 28 years we have been running this event, we have raised in the region of £120,000 for a variety of charities.

“That sum is not only down to the swimmers who take part every year, but also the generosity of Fleetwood people who sponsor them.

“We’re hoping it’s a good one this year.”

The event begins at 10am, but although the early slots are now booked up, there is room for later sessions at 11am and noon.

Anyone wishing to get involved in this year’s event should phone Stuart on (01253) 875548.
