FLEETWOOD Paddling Pool has been given a stay of execution for a further year.
Wyre Council this week told Fleetwood Community Trust, the group behind the campaign to keep the paddling pool open, that it will be in operation next summer.
The Fleetwood attraction, which saw hundreds of visitors flocking to it this summer, bid for £382,000 from Wyre Council’s Shaping Your Neighbourhood project but was turned down for the cash.
But all is not lost in the fight to regenerate the area, as new plans are being looked at to build a new facility for children of all ages.
The Trust says the decision to open in the summer is positive.
Committee member Coun Lorraine Beavers said: “We have already had plans drawn up for a water-based play area and there’s still a consultation about what’s going to be there.
“We were disappointed the council did not look at the funding favourably, but they will be looking at it from a different aspect.
“The few times it was open last summer it was very popular.
“If we can update the paddling pool it will be much better and bring more investment into the town.”
