Lancaster and Fleetwood MP Eric Ollerenshaw is urging local youngsters to take advantage of a free scheme to help disadvantaged students succeed in university applications and careers in top professions.

He is supporting the Social Mobility Foundation as it seeks to place candidates in mentoring and internship programmes across the country.

Applicants from students in their first year at sixth form have to be in by January 27.

Mr Ollerenshaw said:“The Social Mobility Foundation does fantastic work helping people from less well off backgrounds build their skills and experiences and to enter the professions.

“I would encourage local youngsters who want to get on to look at the placements on offer and to make an application.”
