Youngsters at Millfield Science and Performing Arts School are preparing for a trip to Paris to take in the famous sights and experience the French culture at first hand.
Forty Year 8 pupils are making the journey in June and will have the chance to visit the most popular tourist attractions including a trip to the top of the Montparnasse Tower in addition to a trip along the River Seine and a day trip to Euro Disney.
A spokesperson at the Thornton school said: “Pupils have been busy making initial preparations, looking at the type of accommodation they will be staying in via the hotel’s French website.
“They will also be completing an ongoing project on Paris which will enable them to become experts on the capital and all it has to offer.
“The planning requires quite a bit of initiative from the pupils themselves, and that way they will learn more about what is involved preparing for a visit like this.”
The trip will also help the pupils improve their French language abilities, particularly when it comes to speaking the language.
It will certainly provide them with a test, as they will have to make themselves understood by genuine French people - and try and understand what the natives say back to them!
In addition to what they learn during the course of the year, pupils will also be developing their skills at asking for souvenirs in shops, how much items cost, and of course, how to order their “escargots” and “cuisses de grenouille”.
