A community leader in Fleetwood has raised concerns after an electricity substation in the town came under attack.
Ivor Bould, chairman of Fleetwood Neighbourhood Watch Committee, says concrete sills bordering a vent on the station at Greenfield Road have somehow been gouged off.
Mr Bould (right), also a Fleetwood Town Council member, said: “This could be mindless vandalism, which would be bad enough.
“But my fear is that someone has tried to gain entry into the sub-station. It could be the work of metal thieves out to steal copper.
“The point is, if they succeed in getting in and getting hold of the copper, they risk killing themselves and also causing a black-out which could effect a lot of homes around here.”
A spokesman for Electricity North West commented: “Now we have been made aware of this we will take steps to ensure this property is secured.”
