Man took hammer to parents’ dresser

Blackpool Magistrates Court

Blackpool Magistrates Court

A man repeatedly banged on his parents’ bedroom door demanding cigarettes and money before taking a hammer to their antique dresser.

Gavin Howard, 26, formerly of Radcliffe Road, Fleetwood, now of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to causing damage.

He was bailed for pre-sentence reports by District Judge Edward Barr sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said Howard knocked on parents bedroom door at 1am and 3am asking for cigarettes and money on January 15 but he was refused.

At 5am he returned and his father let him in after he banged on the front door.

His request for cigarettes and money was again denied. Howard then went into the rear yard and his father could see him wielding a hammer at an antique dresser.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, said on the night of the offence Howard said his father had hit him with a crutch.
