Fleetwood: From the courts 13-04-16

Paul Bailey, 40, of Alconbury Crescent, Cleveleys, pleaded guilty to three offences of making indecent pictures of children.

He also admitted possessing 297 indecent images of children and being in possession of a prohibited picture of a child.

The offences took place between August 2010 and December last year at Thornton and Cleveleys.

Prosecutor Pam Smith said some of the photographs in Bailey’s possession were classed as category A – the highest level of indecency.

Her application that Bailey be sentenced by a judge at crown court was not opposed by defence lawyer Kathryn Jamieson-Sinclair.

Bailey was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on May 11 by Blackpool magistrates.

He must not have any unsupervised contact with children under 18 and not delete any browsing history of any device he may use to access the internet.

• A man was almost three times over the alcohol limit when he crashed into a bollard at 9am.

Phillip Bulmer said he had gone to the Promenade at Rossall and drunk vodka before going to a takeaway, then being involved in the accident.

Bulmer, a 46-year-old mental health services worker, of Thornton Gate, Thornton, pleaded guilty to to driving with excess alcohol.

He was banned from the road for two years, fined £460 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £46 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Presiding magistrate, David Hearton, told him: “This was an exceptionally high reading.

“You were lucky you did not injure anyone else on the road.”

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said police were called to Rossall Road, Cleveleys, on March 17 at 9.10am, where Bulmer’s Peugeot 207 had collided with a roadside bollard and lost a wheel. He was taken to hospital, but after being discharged a breath test showed 103 micrograms of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit.

When interviewed Bulmer said he had misjudged a lorry coming in the opposite direction and hit the bollard when he swerved.

Kathryn Jamieson-Sinclair, defending, said her client had no previous convictions and added: “Throughout his life he has been exemplary in character and this has been a fall from grace for him.

“He spends a great deal of his time for the benefit of the community. He has shown deep and genuine remorse.”

• A son tried to punch his father in the face after he was told to leave the family home.

Darren Sherlock, unemployed, 43, of Mount Street, Fleetwood, pleaded guilty to breach of the peace and was bound over in the sum of £100 for 12 months by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said police were called to an address on Harrow Avenue, Fleetwood, on April 9 at 9.10pm, by Sherlock’s parents who said their son had turned up, was refusing to leave.

Officers were told Sherlock had lived at his parents address but had been kicked out in February after being accused of taking money to fund a drug habit. Sherlock was abusive to his parents and the officers. As he was being escorted to the door he lunged towards his father and tried to punch him in the face.

Sherlock told magistrates: “I should not have done what I did.”
